Nadezhda Russian Restaurant @ Arab Street
For beginners, order the (Otbivnaya Boyarskaya) pan-fried pork chop with cheese and mushroom toppings, served with russian salad and smooth mashed potato (topped with bacon bits), you wont be disappointed...
Chicken kebab (Shashlyk) is not bad, but it is relatively a small serving (might not be filling)...
For desserts, the (Blinchiki Ice Cream) pancakes served with ice cream is a spot-on...
The Borsch soup and Minskaya Kotleta (mushroom stuffed chicken leg) are not that great however...

Shunjuu Izakaya Sumiyaki @ Riverside View (Robertson Quay)
If Sashimi is the icon food of Japan, then Sumiyaki is their comfort food. One place in Singapore that is fast gaining a reputation as the place to try it out is Shunjuu restaurant, just a few minutes walk down the Singapore River from Clarke Quay and around the corner from Mohamed Sultan Road.Mixing a delicate blend of food, sake and ambience, Shunjuu is one of those places where the traditional Japanese atmosphere makes for a well-rounded dining experience.For the Japanese connoisseur, the Izakaya style of dining is always a favourite. For those that haven’t experienced it, you’re in for a treat. Izakaya can be translated to mean “sit-down sake shop”, and dates back to the Edo period of Japanese history. While the emphasis on Japan’s traditional rice wine is strong, it is in fact the friendly, comfortable atmosphere that appeals to adults and whole families alike.The focus of the menu is the authentic open concept sumiyaki grill that helps cook up over 160 individual dishes as well as other traditional Japanese favourites.In true Japanese style, diners pick a selection of dishes, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the vast array of sake on offer – Shunjuu is known to have the largest range of sake in Singapore (all the sake is available by the glass as well so you can try a few different ones at a time). And on the grill you’ll find anything from seafood, like oysters rolled with pork, to chicken meatballs and ox tongue, grilled rice and Foie Gras.

Foie Gras – They do it better than the French. $12
Hotate Maki – Scallops rolled with pork, with juices oozing out as you bite into it. $7Tokusei Tsukune – Chicken meat bar dipped in raw egg yolk – a perfect complement to a Junmai Shu. $6Cheese Maki – Succulent cheese rolled with seaweed and pork. $5Gyu Tongue – Ox tongue, served up on a skewer – a must try at Shunjuu. $10Naigaimo Tororo Soumen – A unique combination of cold fine Japanese noodles with a grated yam to give a smooth and silky finish. $10* Prices are subject to 10% service charge and 1% CESS
