Best Nasi Lemak: Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak @ Adam Road Hawker Centre

By far the best Nasi Lemak of all times, previous best holder, the famous Nasi Lemak stall @ Changi Village Hawker Centre is history, as the orginal stall owner and family have migrated to Melbourne, Australia ( those lucky Aussies ;) ); and relatives taking over the stall are not doing a good job, the used to be heavenly delicious crispy fried chicken wings, turn out to be crapped 'goreng pisang' battered chicken wings...

The stall have just got a new 'steady-bom-pee-pee' menu sign, with light-up 'sold out' sign, if a certain meal is sold out, steady leh ;P...

The star of the show gotta be the ultra crispy chicken wing, follows by the coconut fragrant and soft textured nasi lemak rice; not forgetting the spot-on chilli and the perfectly deep-fried eggs... and don't forget to ask for free acha or cuttlefish, while stock lasts only!

It so good, in fact, the Sultan of Brunei, 'ta-pau' from here, every now and then... it is definitely the benchmark standard for Nasi Lemak!

And what's better to complete the meal with a good old cup of superb Teh Tarik (hot or cold) from the Adam Drink Stall, life could not get better than this ;)

Chinese COTY (Claypot rice of the Year) 2007 Awards

1st place: '靓女瓦煲饭' aka 本记瓦煲饭 @ Chinatown Hawket Centre
2nd place: New Lucky Claypot Rice aka 新鸿运瓦煲饭 @ Clementi Blk 328
3rd place: Claypot Rice @ Maxell Hawker Centre (located centrally within the centre)

2nd Best Ramen: Mei-Tei @ Robinson Centre

This Tonkotsu (pork-bone based) Ramen not only looks great, with a nice little layer of oil on the top surface of the rich Tonkotsu broth; good old traditional taste, properly cooked hot spring egg aka 味付玉子; noodles is a little on the soft side (not firm enough, at least for me), otherwise it'll be a bowl of excellent Ramen, a try is highly recommended ;)

2nd Best Claypot Rice: New Lucky Claypot Rice @ Clementi Blk 328

'Five Tastes' Claypot Rice cooked to perfection, with tender chicken pieces and delicious chinese pork and liver sliced sausages; salted fish missing though, but won't be crucial as it is pretty yummy already. Good old traditional self-serving of oil and dark soya sauce... Generous portions and other varieties available, two thumbs up! ;)

Best Claypot Rice remains to be Chinatown's '女瓦煲饭', no doubt about that!

Note: Queues may be up to half an hour, depends on your luck, but definitely worth the wait; meanwhile you can get some delicious 'Big' (caution: berri berri 'big') Chicken Buns from the nearby Blk 325, if you are too hungry, like me ;P better still 'ta-pau' back, excellent for next day's breakfast! =)

Best Cold Soba: Shimbashi Soba @ Paragon Basement

Don't bother to hunt for good Cold Soba in town, this remains to be the best. Freshly made daily to perfection by their Soba Master. Excellent Tempura Cold Soba is a muz try, every mouthful is heavenly ;P and forget about the Warm Soba (Soba in Soup), as it is not as good. Plain Cold Soba with Tempura Combo Set is not bad too!

Best ('TomTon' Black Pig) Pork Tonkatsu: Tampopo @ Liang Court Basement

Special Airflown TomTon (Black Pig) Pork Katsu, crispy on the outside, juicy and tender on the inside ;P The best ultimate Pork Katsu yet! Try it with the Katsu Combo Set, which is enough for three persons, there's some unique Katsu Roll, basically Kurobuta Ham sandwiched with Sweet Plum Roll too; Tempura is not too bad either; look out for those 'Little Fish' Katsu (Seasonal only) too, berri berri tasty. Chicken Katsu wise, Romankan Yokohama's one still better though. The Kurobuta Ham Salad is a definite muz try too! Certain special menu are seasonal, and only available for a discerning period of time, make sure you try those; and don't forget their wonderful dessert selection, like the Scoop Short Cake, bit on the pricy side, but is well worth it.

Best Ramen: Ichibantei ( 熱烈 一番亭 ) @ Quay Side

Still the best ramen in town! die die muz try their famous and fragrant Tan Tan Ramen, even better, try it with their combo meal set, which includes the Stoneware Crispy and Savoury Fried Rice, and tasty Chicken Karaage Salad, super value for money, juz beware of the large portions though, two petite ladies is probably sufficient to share a combo meal!

Important Note: Ask for the superbly cooked hot spring egg aka 味付玉子 if your Ramen don't have it

Okinawa at it's best! ;)

Fend off the Cold with Ichibantei Ramen

Romankan Yokohama @ Takashimaya Basement

Forget about their "Homemade Katsu-Sandwich", and go straight for the Chicken Katsu Kare (Curry Rice), choose the salad side, rather than the miso soup, enjoy ;)

Important Note: Only go for the Chicken Katsu, rather than the pork one (Tampopo's TomTon one is much better, and still the best). Also, only go during dinner time, as the Kare (Curry) is at it's best then; be warned! the Kare (Curry) during lunch time is a little too 'diluted', and not cooked to perfection yet!
